We shall be holding a ‘Vision Day’ in Little Ellingham village hall on Saturday 1st February for all the churches associated with Tori’s Role as Priest-in-charge. This event is primarily to identify how we are doing now and what the future is to be as we move towards becoming one benefice. This will be an opportunity for individual members of our churches to have their voice. To put forward ideas, concerns, hopes and expectations.

Although maybe not the most important consideration, one question that needs to be answered is ‘What do we call our combined benefice?’ Currently it is ‘Gt and Lt Ellingham, Hingham, High Oak, Rockland All Saints, Rockland St Peter and Scoulton with Wood Rising’. Quite a mouthful, so if you have a better suggestion, please bring it with you.

Coffee and Tea will be available on arrival and throughout the session. There will be a break for lunch of soup, rolls, cheese and cake around half way.

If you cannot make this session but feel you have something to contribute, please inform Tori or Sue. Their contact details are at the end of these Ramblings as usual. Alternatively they both will be at the Benefice service on Sunday.

An opportunity to gather in a small group to explore our Christian faith and prayer.

The BIG BREAKFAST is almost here! Come along on Saturday 18 th May from 9.30am to enjoy cereals, toast, bacon and sausages – all in aid of Christian Aid. There will be no set fee for the breakfast – everyone is welcome to come along and donate what they can for this worthy cause.

Christian Aid is a charity set up by churches in Britain and Ireland to fight poverty – it supports people across the world on the basis of need, not religion, race, ethnicity or nationality and it funds projects that help people of all faiths and none. Mush of the work is carried out by local faith-based organisations but it is for the benefit of all. Poverty does not discriminate on the basis of faith. Christian Aid is part of the DEC.

Christian Aid week this year focuses on maternal health. This appeal will build more health clinics; it will train nurses in urgent maternal care; it will improve hygiene training, so mums and babies can fight off preventable diseases.

Sierra Leone is the world’s most dangerous place to become a mum. Every day 10 women die from giving birth. In Sawula district, the community struggle with a clinic which has no electricity and only two delivery beds. In the recent Ebola outbreak, one in ten of the country’s medical workers lost their lives caring for others. The crisis has left Sierra Leoneans battling to provide healthcare for their communities.

Jebbeh is heavily pregnant but as her baby grows, it’s not joy that fills her heart, but fear. When Jebbeh’s sister Fatmata went in to labour, there were so few ambulances that Fatmata had no choice but to walk for three hours under the baking sun, to the nearest hospital. The journey was long and with every step Fatmata struggled to keep walking. Jebbeh told us: ‘My sister was crying out with hunger. She died on the side of the road. She never gave birth.’ Together, we can make childbirth safe for mums and babies. Through our gifts and prayers, we can help give the world’s poorest mums a chance to live. If we raise £300, it could help provide a new delivery bed so more mums can deliver their babies safely.
